Evert Taube

Författaren, kompositören och konstnären Axel Evert Taube föddes den 12 mars 1890 i Keillerska huset i Göteborg, men växte upp på fyrmästargården på ön Vinga. Son till Karl Gunnar Taube och Julia Sofia Jakobsdotter. Evert Taube avled 31 januari 1976 i Stockholm.

Evert skriver i boken Jag kommer av ett brusand´ hav om sin födelse på Badhusgatan i Göteborg (officiellt Vinga, Styrsö sn):

"Vid min ankomst till jämmerdalen onsdagen den 12 mars 1890 kl 5 fm ansags jag vara dödfödd och lades undan. Men när doktor Petter Silfverskiöld skulle konstatera dödsfallet nöjde han sig inte därmed utan satte liv i mig."

Släkten Taube


vapensköld för adliga ätten TaubeEvert Taubes släktgren och förfäder delade vapensköld och medeltida rötter i Danmark och Baltikum med den "svenska" släkten Taube, och de andra, i sveriges historia välkända Evert Taube; greven, överamiralen (och farfadern till romerska riksgrevinnan Hedvig Taube) och drottning Christinas gunstling Fredrik Taube (1648-1703), och Gustav IIIs gunstling Evert Wilhelm Taube (1737-1799) .

Dessa Evert Taube var avlägsna släktingar, men tillhörde egentligen inte Evert Axels förfäder, vilka kom till sverige först i början av 1800-talet från Finland, där de tjänat svenska kronan i över hundra år.

Everts farfar Otto Reinhold Taube flyttade från Haparanda till Göteborg, och Everts far Carl Gunnar Taube blev fyrmästare i Bohuslän efter att ha arbetat som sjökapten. Han gifte sig 1884 i Kungshamn med Julia Sofia Jacobsdotter, dotter till kronolots Jacob Olsson i Strömstad. Julias bröder var också fyrmästare.

Vinga


Vinga fyrBarndomen tillbringade Evert på Vinga ö och hans uppväxt präglades av fartyg, fiske, sjömanslivet och historier om främmande länder och hamnar. Evert var redan som liten flitig brevskrivare. På Vinga ö bodde fyra andra familjer, och öns 10 barn hade ett eget skolhus. Egentligen gick man inte i skolan mer än cirka sex månader, men med en så liten klass blev utbildningen grundlig. Här gick Evert i skola tills han blev 13.

År 1904-1905 studerade Evert vid Malmö Borgarskola varvid han bodde hos hos farbror Axel Taube och tog säkert intryck av Axels son Mattias Taube som var konstnär. (Mattias blev sedemera skådespelare och far till skådespelerskan Aino Taube)

Göteborg


Kustens Varv1905 befordrades Everts far till överlots och familjen flyttade till Taubehuset vid Kustens Varv i Göteborg och den konstintresserade Evert skrevs in vid Latinläroverket, men efter att ha fått underkänt i matematik började han gå i lära för teatermålare Jens Christian Andrésen på Stora Teatern i Göteborg. På kvällarna tog han kvällslektioner för Carl Wilhemsson på Valands målarskola. Men han vantrivdes och äventyrslustan tog över...

Stockholm

16 år gammal lånade Evert 18 kronor av sin pianolärare farbror Svensson, packade en väska med kläder, böcker, färglådor, och två smörgåsar, och rymde med nattåget till Stockholm för att bli konstnär.

Stockholm blev för Evert mycket friluftsliv, för han måste ibland övernatta i naturen när kassan var klen. Oftast boddde han nog dock hos kusinen och konstnären Mattias Taube, och Evert lyckades publicera teckingar i Dagens Nyheter och Stockholms Dagblad och etablera kontakter med konstnärer som Olof Thunman. Avsikten var att börja på Konstakademien, men för detta behövdes rekommendationer. Han träffade bl.a. prins Eugen på Valdemarsudde och baron Gustaf Cederström, direktör för Konstakademien, vilken beviljade honom inträde. På Nationalmuseum ser han Astri Bergman för första gången, hon är då nio år, han 17.14 år senare förlovade de sig i Florens.

Till sjöss

Men under nyåret 1907 tvingade Everts far honom till ett val: antingen att studera på internatskola eller att gå till sjöss. Den nu 18-årige Evert valde att mönstra på atlantkryssaren S/S Australic av Göteborg som koleldare, och efter att ha rundat Goda Hoppasudden två gånger upplever han Sydafrika och Ceylon och på tillbakavägen Röda havet och Suezkanalen. Falskt anklagad blir han av kapten Hultgren polisanmäld, men rymmer i North Shields i England, och gömmer sig hos Mary Strand. Med falsk sjömansbok utställt på jungman Alfred Jensen blev han jungman på andra fartyg.

Men 1909 var han tillbaka i Sverige.

Argentina


Evert i ArgentinaEfter att ha tillbringat sommaren utställningsåret 1909 i Stockholm och vintern i London var Evert pank och mönstrade tillsammans med Karl-Alfred och Fritiof Andersson på hjulångaren Princess of Wales och Evert tillbringade sedan fem år i Argentina. Han arbetade som assistent vid byggandet av bevattningskanalerna, beriden adjutant hos Presidenten i Argentina, spårvagnskonduktör i Cordoba, tecknare och jornalist, blev argentinsk medborgare, lärde sig spanska och italienska, lärde sig spela gitarr och sjunga tangomelodier.

I Stockholm igen 1915-1917





I samband med kriget for Evert till Sverige 1915, och flyttade snart till Stockholm. Han blev elev för Albert Engström, och var under en tid förlovad med hans dotter Malin Engström, han gjorde värnplikten i flottan 1916-1917 och hemförlovades från militären 1917 i mars. Han bosätter sig sedan på Hotel Stora Rosenbad i Stockholm för att skriva, måla och komponera, och han publicerar visan Resa till Spanien i tidningen ”Söndags-Nisse” vilket leder till arbete som journalist. Han bodde därefter ett tag i Norge.

Västkusten, vintern 1917


Undern vintern 1917 gick Taube med som frivillig rorgängare på en torpedbåt från Lysekil.

Bohuslän och debuter 1917-1918


Nästa bostad blir på Smögen hos Edouard Stranne, där han skriver för tidningar, och den 1 februari 1918 sjöng han till gitarr på Godtemplarlogen på Smögen, med egna visorna Karl-Alfred och Ellinor, Allt uti blåa kläder och Resa till Spanien och andras. Samma år ger han ut sin första bok, Inte precis om kvinnorna med 17 berättelser. och flyttar till Stockholm igen.

Stockholm, framgång, sjukdom och Byssan Lull


Evert upplever ett fattigt Stockholm under krigets sista månader 1919, men efter krigsslutet debuterar han på restaurant Gillet i Stockholm med Karl-Alfred och Ellinor med stor framgång, han uppträder på Cabaret Läderlappen, men drabbas plötsligt av Spanska sjukan och läggs in på sjukhus. Under våren seglar med sin vän Kurt Ljungstedt till Skagen och skriver där Sju sjömansvisor och Byssan Lull illusterad av Ljungstedt, vilken blir en succe.



1920: Paris, San Remo och Astri Bergman, Margita Alfvén och jul i Dalarna


1920 reser Evert med sin syster till Paris, och där träffar han Astri Bergman, som följer med honom till San Remo.

Kärleken spirar och de förlovar sig i Florens, vilket Astris far föga uppskattade, eftersom hon var förlovad och hon kallas hem till sverige.

De ses inte under fyra år, och Evert är en tid förlovad med Margita Alfvén, tonsättaren Hugo Alfvéns dotter, och Evert tycks ha tillbringat julen 1920 med familjen på Alfvéngården på Digerberget i Tällberg, Dalarna.



Evert sjöng in sin första skiva 1921


I januari 1921 sjöng taube in Karl Alfred och Fritiof Andersson för Concert record grammophone, och samma år elva His Masters Voice.

Evert instiftar 1924 sällskapet Pax Aurea på Den Gyldene Freden. Via Den Gylden Freden träffade han ibland Astris far Herman Bergman. Efter att Evert lärt känna fadern bättre, utgett fler böcker och vissamlingar, samt sjungit in visor på grammofon får han sin Astri.

Utmärkelser


Evert Taube


Evert Taube gjorde sig känd både som miljövän och humanist. Han deltog aktivt i att rädda både Mosebacke, Vindelälven, och Taubehuset i Göteborg.

Citat från minnesartikel i Expressen i mars 1976:
Jo, nog sympatiserar jag med socialisterna på sätt och vis. Ni förstår att socialt och genom min släkt tillhör jag högern, till intellektet är jag folkpartist, men till mitt temperament är jag socialdemokrat – det är jag!

Evert Taube gick bort den 31 januari 1976 och jordfästes den 16 februari. Medlemmar ur Flottans Män bildade tillsammans med sjövärnsaspiranter hedersvakt vid kistan. Sven Bertil Taube, som önskat vår närvaro vid begravningsakten, skrev därefter och tackade ”… för den insats ni gjorde för att skänka Evert en sista hyllning och samtidigt ge ceremonien en inramning som i enkelhet och stram värdighet var precis sådan, som Evert ville ha den (www.flottansman.se)
